Ichigokan Plaza

Located a 5-minute walk from Tokyo Station, the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, Tokyo hosts exhibitions focused on modern art from the late nineteenth to the early twentieth century. Housed in a reconstruction of the red-brick Mitsubishi Ichigokan building, originally constructed in 1894, the museum invites visitors to view paintings and prints primarily from late nineteenth-century Europe. Its charm lies in the opportunity to experience the atmosphere of that era through both the architecture and the artworks on display.

The museum’s philosophy of being open to the city is reflected in Ichigokan Plaza, the courtyard that stretches out in front of the entrance. Free to visit, the courtyard features about 40 varieties of roses and other flowers, and is a beloved spot for rest and relaxation both among people working in the area and passers-by.

After viewing the artworks, take a moment to pause at Building No. 1 Plaza and admire the illuminated red-brick facade before heading out into the streets of Hibiya and Marunouchi.

After enjoying art at the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, Tokyo, head to Marunouchi Naka-dori, the tree-lined avenue that runs north to south through Marunouchi. Take a stroll along the cobblestone street, lined with trees and shops selling clothing, cosmetics, and household goods. Stop by any shops that catch your eye and look for something that suits your taste.

Additionally, from November 12 to December 25, 2026, Marunouchi Bright Holiday—one of the highlight programs of the ARTE TOKYO festival—will illuminate trees along an approximately 1.2-kilometer stretch of Marunouchi Naka-dori. Shopping while taking in the streets bathed in champagne-gold light is a unique experience you can only have here in fall and winter.

Additionally, the restaurants on the sixth floor offer views of the illuminated Park View Garden on the rooftop, as well as the lights of surrounding buildings, Hibiya Park, and the moat of the Imperial Palace. Savor your dinner while taking in the light displays as they blend with the city’s greenery and surrounding lights.

Furthermore, from November 13 through December 25, 2026, ARTE TOKYO’s core programs—the three-dimensional installation City Spirits and the video installation Hibiya-Marunouchi Art Vision: Tokyo Avant-Garde Transmission—will be on display along Hibiya Naka-dori.
