National Film Archive of Japan

Japan’s only national film institution administers a collection of more than 90,000 reels both domestic and international, including the first film designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. Two theaters within the museum host special screenings on a wide variety of themes. The National Film Archive of Japan also houses a library with over 56,000 cinema-related books, where visitors can browse Japanese and Western monographs, domestic and international film festival catalogs, and more. The gallery displays movie-related materials ranging from posters and photographs to film equipment and the personal belongings of filmmakers. It's a place worth visiting even if you aren’t a movie buff.
