Meiji Jingu

Founded in 1920, Meiji Jingu enshrines Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken as its principal deities. One of Tokyo’s foremost Shinto shrines, it attracts millions of visitors for New Year’s prayers. Approximately 100,000 trees donated from across Japan for the shrine’s founding were planted to create its sacred forest, envisioned as an “eternal grove.” Visitors can enjoy the seasonal beauty of the woodland, admire plants including irises, and observe wildlife throughout the year.
