Vibrant shopping streets lead away from Kichijoji Station in several directions, each captivating visitors with their unique charm. Among them is Kichijoji Sunroad, a 300-meter-long arcade to the north of the station. It is lined with restaurants, supermarkets, and shops dealing in various daily essentials. Be sure to also step off the main thoroughfare into neighboring streets, where you’ll find long-established delicatessens and food stalls.

Meanwhile, Nakamichi Street on the west side of Kichijoji Station offers a distinctly different vibe. Along this street you’ll find independently owned clothing stores, quirky variety shops, and cool cafes. The vintage clothing shops are concentrated especially along Nanaibashi Street, particularly along the route from the station’s south exit toward Inokashira Park. Inokashira Park is one of the symbols of Kichijoji. The park centers on a large pond that bustles with people rowing boats during the day and exudes a quiet, serene atmosphere at night, when locals and visitors alike gather on the benches around the pond to chat and relax.
