100th Anniversary of the Tokyo Metropolitan Art MuseumWhat a Wonderful World: Masterworks from the Musée d’Orsay
Some 110 masterpieces from the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, including paintings, sculptures, crafts, and photographs, are on display in Ueno to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum. Highlights at “What a Wonderful World” include Millet’s The Gleaners, returning to Japan for the first time in 23 years, as well as Van Gogh’s Starry Night and Gauguin’s Arearea. The exhibition begins with a celebratory display featuring works inspired by various forms of dance, weaving together life’s most cherished moments across seven sections. The nineteenth century was a time of profound social change driven by industrial development. The joy that artists discovered in their daily lives offers insights for us as we navigate our own rapidly changing modern world.
