This open-air event aims to preserve and promote the Intangible Folk Cultural Properties of the Toshima area. Held at the Global Ring Theatre in Ikebukuro West Gate Park, it offers an opportunity to watch folk performing arts deeply rooted in the local community. In addition to performances of key Toshima arts such as the Nagasaki Lion Dance, Fujimoto Hayashi and Kotobuki Lion Dance, and the traditional Zoshigaya Kishimojin Festival Lantern Procession and Memorial Service, folk performing arts groups from Toshima’s sister cities and other regions will gather for the event. In 2026, with “Earth” as the theme, visitors can experience the culture and pulse of the district through powerful, grounded movements. These include the “Fungomi,” a purification dance fundamental to the Nagasaki Lion Dance, and the giant serpent dance that is a staple of Shinto Kagura rituals. The event also features special live performances that take traditional music in exciting new directions, as well as product booths, allowing attendees to see, hear, and taste their way through the folk cultures of regional Japan.
