The master of multimedia art's first large-scale solo exhibition in JapanTony Oursler: Tech/Gnosis-Magic, Media, Art
Tony Oursler is an artist known for his mysterious, immersive installations that combine video, sculpture, sound, light, and words. This exhibition offers a comprehensive overview of his major works, including the early piece “Private” (1994–1997), which featured fellow contemporary artist Jim Shaw, and “Specular” (2021). In addition, it presents previously unseen works, including some that have taken over a quarter-century to realize, as well as new pieces created specifically for this exhibition. Also on view are archival materials carefully selected for the occasion from Oursler’s collection of approximately 3,000 items—including artifacts related to science, magic, and unidentified phenomena—which serve as the wellspring of his creativity.
