One of the largest Yosakoi street dancing festivals in Tokyo takes place every October in Ikebukuro as the grand finale of Toshima Ward’s Fukuro Festival. Top-tier teams from all over the country—from Hokkaido in the north to Kochi, the birthplace of Yosakoi, in the south—participate, making it a hugely popular event that typically attracts over 100 teams each year. Centered on the Ikebukuro Station area, the festival extends across eight venues throughout Toshima on the second day. Visitors can enjoy a diverse array of Yosakoi styles all day long, including each team’s unique costumes, the sound of their naruko clappers, and powerful formation dances. Admission is free, and one of the best things about the festival is the ability to casually hop from venue to venue as you explore. Set against the backdrop of autumn in Ikebukuro, you can enjoy the energetic performances of the dancers up close.
