Taking place at various indoor and outdoor venues throughout the Yaesu, Nihonbashi, Kyobashi, and Ginza districts, this festival turns the city itself into a platform for showcasing photography. The “T3” in the name derives from the three conditions for fostering urban creativity—technology, talent, and tolerance—proposed by sociologist Richard Florida. Based on the idea that new cultures emerge where these three “Ts” intersect, T3 is one of Japan’s largest urban international photography festivals. This year’s theme is “&,” which translates to a focus on the intersecting relationship between photographer and subject, and the exploration of perspectives that cannot be fully captured by binary oppositions. Related events such as the T3 PHOTO ASIA photography fair and talk programs will be held during the festival, providing visitors with diverse ways to casually experience photographic art while strolling through the city.
