Summer Night Museum 2026
In what has become a summer tradition, city-run museums and galleries in Tokyo extend their hours on Friday evenings from August 6 to 28, allowing visitors to casually enjoy art and culture after dark. The event is held at six facilities: the Tokyo Metropolitan Edo-Tokyo Museum, which reopened after renovations in March this year, as well as the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum, the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum (which also stays open late on Thursdays during the event period), the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, and the Tokyo Shibuya Koen-dori Gallery, with opening hours extended until as late as 9 P.M. During the event period, special events such as mini-concerts are complemented by perks such as ticket discounts and free admission for students after 5 P.M.
