Sumida River Fireworks Festival
Tokyo’s premier fireworks festival features approximately 20,000 fireworks. The display begins at 7:00 PM at the “First Venue” (from downstream of Sakura Bridge to upstream of Kototoi Bridge) and at 7:30 PM at the “Second Venue” (from downstream of Komagata Bridge to upstream of Umaya Bridge). The First Venue hosts a fireworks competition featuring pyrotechnicians who have achieved outstanding results at major fireworks festivals across Japan. Please note that the area around the venues will be extremely crowded on the day of the event. The venues are within walking distance of Asakusa Station, Kuramae Station, and Oshiage Station, so using public transportation on the day is your best bet. One-way pedestrian restrictions will also be in effect, and since there are few places to sit and watch, most spectators will end up viewing the fireworks while walking. We also recommend staggering your departure time to avoid the crowds.
