Marimekko: Art of Printmaking

Founded in Finland in 1951, the design house Marimekko has consistently pushed beyond the boundaries of fashion and interior design to introduce new lifestyles. The more than 3,500 prints and designs created by the company to date have, at times, been reimagined, enriching the lives of people around the world across generations. Guided by the words of founder Armi Ratia, this exhibition highlights Marimekko’s creative aesthetic and printmaking techniques through dresses, original artwork, and fabrics from various eras. The venue, the former residence of Prince Asaka, is a historic building in which 1930s French Art Deco decor coexists with Japanese design elements. A highlight of the exhibition is the interplay between Marimekko’s vibrant patterns and the architectural ornamentation of the space.

* Free admission for holders of a Physical Disability Certificate, ‘Ai no Techo’ (Support Certificate), Developmental Disability Certificate, Mental Health and Welfare Certificate, or Atomic Bomb Survivor Health Certificate, and up to two accompanying carers (including Mirairo ID; no booking required)

* On the third Wednesday of each month (Silver Day), admission is free for those aged 65 and over (no booking required)
* On October 28 and November 11, visitor numbers will be limited more strictly than usual.
*During the evening hours of Autumn Night Museum 2026, admission after 17:00 is free for students, and group rates apply to the general public and those 65 and older (proof of eligibility required).
