Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Maeda Ikutokukai Foundation The Maeda: Legacy of a Prosperous Samurai Family
The Kaga Maeda were a daimyo family based in Kanazawa on the Sea of Japan coast. After the family relocated to Tokyo following the end of warrior rule in 1868, they established the Maeda Ikutokukai in 1926 with the aim of preserving the cultural assets passed down in the family over generations. This grand exhibition commemorates the organization’s 100th anniversary and brings together the history and culture of the Kaga Maeda under one roof. The items on display include armor and famous swords belonging to successive heads of the family, starting with its founder, Maeda Toshiie, as well as renowned tea ceremony utensils and the collection of art that once adorned the Maeda family residence. Don’t miss this opportunity to fully appreciate the essence of refined samurai culture.
