Koishikawa Korakuen Gardens Special Nighttime Opening

Koishikawa Korakuen, a daimyo garden associated with the once powerful Mito Tokugawa samurai family, will hold a special nighttime opening in time for the fall foliage season. As the trees are gradually taking on their autumn colors, the appeal of this event lies in its use of light and projections to bring the foliage to life a little early. Inside the garden, features such as the island in the central pond, the “Single Pine” tree, the Karamon Gate, and the snow-support ropes prepared for winter will be illuminated. Highlights among these are the projection mapping show in which historical scenes are displayed on the Tsuji Wall, and the light display on Engetsu Bridge, themed around autumn foliage. Additionally, at the garden’s teahouse—open only at night—visitors can enjoy traditional Japanese sweets and matcha.
