Viewing the Moon while Strolling in Hama-rikyu Gardens

Admire the full moon this fall in the beautifully illuminated gardens of Hama-rikyu. This sprawling green space, which once belonged to the Tokugawa shogunate, will stay open until 9pm from October 31 to November 5. This special night opening is held to celebrate Kurimeigetsu (November 2), believed to be the second most beautiful evening to catch the harvest moon. Stemming from the moon-viewing tradition known as tsukimi, the event will include performances of Noh, sacred kagura dances, and shakuhachi flute. Special matcha sets, sake, and limited-edition lanterns are available for purchase. Note that the viewing route will differ somewhat from the usual one due to construction work carried out on one of the garden’s bridges.
