Special Exhibition A Treasure Trove from Ireland: Japanese Picture Scrolls and Books from the Chester Beatty Collection

The Chester Beatty in Dublin, Ireland houses the collection of Sir Alfred Chester Beatty, who made his fortune in the American mining industry and amassed a diverse collection of artworks from around the world. Its trove of Japanese “monogatari-e” (narrative paintings) is among the finest in Europe, and this exhibition presents 25 of these singular works—rarely seen outside of Ireland—organized into six themes.
