The 2026 NHK historical drama “Brothers in Arms” depicts Japan’s Sengoku (“Warring States”) period from the perspective of Toyotomi Hidenaga, a renowned strategist who supported his older brother, the warlord Hideyoshi, behind the scenes. This special exhibition showcases numerous valuable historical artifacts related to figures connected to the Toyotomi brothers, including Oda Nobunaga, Tokugawa Ieyasu, Kuroda Kanbei, Sen no Rikyu, and Kodai-in. Among the exhibits are the armor of Toyotomi vassal Todo Kagetora and swords designated as Important Cultural Properties that were passed down from Hideyoshi to his son Toyotomi Hideyori and then to Ieyasu, who became shogun of Japan. The exhibition offers a chance to study the lives of the Toyotomi brothers and feel the spirit of the turbulent era they lived through.
