Artists at the Café: From the Impressionists, Van Gogh and Toulouse-Lautrec to Picasso

This exhibition traces the new wave of art created by artists who gathered at cafés in Montmartre in late nineteenth-century Paris. In addition to masterpieces by Manet, leading Impressionist painters, Van Gogh, and Lautrec, the exhibition also introduces—for the first time in Japan—the café culture of Barcelona that inspired Picasso to embark on his “Blue Period.” Through a collection of rare works, visitors can experience the new ideas and expanded forms of expression that cafés brought to art.
